This guide will walk us through setting up MultiFactor Authentication using text messaging.
Part 1 – MultiFactor Authentication has been enabled for your Microsoft 365 account. To set it up, we’ll need to log into the Microsoft 365 web portal.
- Open a web browser and go to https://office.com. You’ll see a login prompt:
- Your username will be your email address.
- After entering your username and password, you’ll see a prompt requesting more information:
- Click Next to proceed
Part 2 -Configure text message authentication.
- In the dropdown underneath “Step 1: How should we contact you? Select the following options:
– Leave “Authentication Phone” selected in the first dropdown menu.
-Set “United States +1” in the second dropdown
-Enter your mobile phone number in the text box
-Select the “Send me a code by text message” button in the Method box. - Your screen should resemble the screenshot below:
- Click “Next” to proceed.
- After clicking Next, you’ll receive a text message on your mobile device.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the text message at the prompt on the website.
- Your screen should resemble the screenshot below:
- The next step, “Step 3: Keep using your existing applications,” can be skipped.
- We can configure app passwords later if needed.
- Click “Done” to continue.
We’ve successfully set up MultiFactor Authentication for your Microsoft 365 account. Take a few extra minutes to test signing into your email account on your computer, phone, and any other devices where it’s been set up. You may receive one or more 6-digit codes through text – enter them to sign in to your account.
